ONEIROLOGY (Study of Dreams)

We seem to interpret everything that is not properly understood and which have some kind of patterns; the lines in palms, the forehead, the tipping of cards, movement of planets, constellations, placement of numbers etc and also dreams. This is because of our innate fascination to have a glimpse of unfolding future. The random occurrence of events in nature and not the most efficient way of rewarding the best gives hope to everyone to obtain best out of life and the world.

Working of dreams are not well understood so far but we may know more about them with passage of time, however for the time being occult interprets them to know future while rational minds interprets it just a play of mind. Do animals dream? They do, even without the advantage of language they dream about fights for territory and of being chased by predators etc. We have much more elaborate dreams, some simple some very complex mostly playing out events from life but sometimes bizarre scenes play out in our dreams having no connection with conscious mind. We have no control over our dreams; when, how and what will be played out in our dreams. We remember nightmares because intensity of such dreams seeps out of the subconscious to conscious and wakes us up abruptly. Do dreams have message?

Who knows! They could be giving signs of failing health or mental fatigue or just telling us to slow down in life.

BLACK HOLES

On 10th Sept, scientists are going to conduct a unique experiment. They will run up protons in a 24 Km long circular tunnel with the help of gigantic magnets cooled to 2 Deg Kelvin with liquid helium (At that temperature metals become superconductors) and smash them; tunnel is built painstakingly over several years on Franco-Swiss border. The experiment will create situation similar to the time when universe was created in cataclysmic big bang.

To understand creation of universe we must first understand that space is not limitless! It is not easy for us to visualize warping of three dimensional space but the fact is that universe is limited space just like a loop has no ends universe has no ends. The space is folded back into loop therefore when scientists say the universe is expanding it means the space is actually spreading out or in other words the loop is getting bigger. At the beginning of time the entire universe was a tiny dot called singularity. Again, visualize that entire space was trapped in a dot!!! When it exploded the temperature was very high. The purpose of the experiment is to create similar condition as when Universe exploded in a big bang. What happened during the few nano seconds after the bang is very important to know the working of quantum mechanics and thereby understand how universe came into being.

Now the alarmists have created suspicions in the mind of lay public that some thing terrible could happen during the experiment. Something terrible could happen is a possibility but in the realm of impossible odds. The point of contention is the creation of black holes. Black holes will be created is a high possibility but of the size of lesser than a proton. Now we all know that Black Holes have super gravity and that every thing that comes close to it is sucked in, nothing comes out of it. Yet, the fact that Black Holes lose mass and dissipate is not commonly known. In addition we must understand that this sucking of matter is not instantaneous and to understand this in astronomical context imagine an average size black Hole (Event Horizon diameter approx. 3 KM) put right at the centre of our Sun will take several thousand years to suck in entire Sun.

How does Black Hole lose mass? Actually Event Horizon is the radius around a Black Hole beyond which nothing goes out of it even the light. We also know that energy is in constant dynamic state of matter and radiation i.e. gamma ray splitting into positron and electron and reconverting into gamma ray. So at the event horizon when this conversion takes place some matter escapes the black hole thus it gradually dissipates and eventually disappears.

The Black Holes that will be created in this experiment will be so small and will lose out the mass so fast that there is virtually no possibility of any of the black holes surviving and causing disaster!!! So relax and enjoy unfolding of science……..
